Online shopping is a form of electronic commerce which allows consumers to directly buy goods or services from your eCommerce Website over the network. eCommerce refers to any form of business transaction conducted online. The most popular of examples of an eCommerce store is online shopping, which is defined as buying and selling of goods via the internet on any device. eCommerce is the fastest growing retail market projected to hit $4.135 trillion in sales in 2020 world wide. eCommerce can also entail other types of activities, such as online auctions, payment gateways, online ticketing, and internet banking. 

There are 6 types of eCommerce that can be hosted. We focus on the 3 most prominent ones when it comes to design of a eCommerce online store. eCommerce is classified into the type of participants involved in the transaction. Our design are based on these business models:

 

1)Business to Business – (B2B) is when businesses sell to other businesses. This is typical of stationery stores who sell office equipment in bulk to businesses. Normally B2B companies provide a discounted rate per unit if customers buy in bulk which it is great motivation for offices to avail of. B2B ecommerce refers to all electronic transactions of goods and sales that are conducted between two companies. This type of ecommerce typically explains the relationship between the producers of a product and the wholesalers who advertise the product for purchase to consumers. Sometimes this allows wholesalers to stay ahead of their competition.      

2)Business to Consumer – (B2C) is the most commonly thought of business model where merchants sell to consumers who buy a small amount of produce. A familiar example of the B2C model would be supermarkets where consumers buy their shopping weekly but they wouldn’t normally bulk buy anything. Many people enjoy this avenue of ecommerce because it allows them to shop around for the best prices, read customer reviews and often find different products that they wouldn’t otherwise be exposed to in the retail world. This ecommerce category also enables businesses to develop a more personalized relationship with their customers.                                                  

3) Consumer to Consumer – (C2C) is a relatively new business model where consumers who previously bought something seek to resell this item to another consumer. Through marketplaces this can be easy and quite lucrative for selling items that you no longer have a use for. This level of ecommerce encompasses all electronic transactions that take place between consumers. Generally, these transactions are provided by online platforms (such as PayFast & PayPal), but often are conducted through the use of social media networks and websites.
